Hugh Brady (bishop)

Hugh Brady (died 1563) was an Irish Protestant bishop. He served as the Church of Ireland Bishop of Meath from 1560 until his death.

Brady was originally a Roman Catholic priest. He converted to Protestantism and became a staunch advocate for the Reformation in Ireland. He was appointed Bishop of Meath by Queen Elizabeth I in 1560, a position he held until his death three years later. He was instrumental in establishing Protestantism in the region. His efforts included translating the Bible into Irish, although the complete translation wasn't finished until after his death. He faced considerable opposition from those who remained loyal to the Catholic Church.
