Hero (2015 Japanese film)
Hero is a 2015 Japanese courtroom drama film directed by Masayuki Suzuki. It is the second film adaptation of the popular Japanese television drama series Hero, which originally aired in 2001 and was followed by a sequel series in 2014. The first film, also titled Hero, was released in 2007.
The 2015 film features Takuya Kimura reprising his role as Kohei Kuryu, a unconventional and unorthodox public prosecutor. The story revolves around Kuryu and his team investigating a case involving a foreign embassy where jurisdiction becomes a major point of contention. This challenges Kuryu's sense of justice and puts him at odds with established legal protocols.
The film continues the established character dynamics from the television series, featuring returning cast members and introducing new characters. It is known for its realistic portrayal of the Japanese legal system (though with dramatic license), strong character development, and exploration of themes such as justice, integrity, and the complexities of international law. The film was a box office success in Japan.
