Hercules Robinson (Royal Navy officer)
Hercules Robinson (1789 – 21 March 1864) was a British Royal Navy officer who rose to the rank of Vice-Admiral.
Born in 1789, Robinson entered the Royal Navy in 1796. He served during the Napoleonic Wars, seeing action in various theatres. He was promoted to Lieutenant in 1805, Commander in 1814, Captain in 1822, Rear-Admiral in 1852, and Vice-Admiral in 1857.
He served in a variety of commands throughout his career, including service in the Mediterranean and on the coasts of Africa and South America. He was known for his professionalism and dedication to duty.
Hercules Robinson died on 21 March 1864. He was the father of Sir Hercules Robinson, later 1st Baron Rosmead, a prominent colonial administrator who served as Governor of Hong Kong, Ceylon, New South Wales, and the Cape Colony.
