Harp lute
A harp lute is a stringed musical instrument that combines features of both the harp and the lute. Generally, it possesses a neck and body similar to a lute or other chordophone, allowing for fretting of strings, but the strings are arranged in a fan-shaped pattern radiating from the bridge, similar to a harp. This arrangement facilitates playing open strings and allows for a wider range of tones than a traditional lute with strings running parallel to the neck. The instrument is relatively rare and historically appears in diverse forms across different cultures. Variations exist in the body shape, the number of strings, tuning, and playing techniques. The precise definition of a "harp lute" can be somewhat ambiguous, as instruments blending harp-like and lute-like characteristics may also be described under other terms depending on specific construction details and regional nomenclature.
