HTC First
The HTC First was an Android-based smartphone manufactured by HTC and released in 2013. It was notable for being the first and only phone pre-loaded with Facebook Home, a user interface layer designed to deeply integrate Facebook services into the Android operating system.
The phone featured a 4.3-inch display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, 1 GB of RAM, and 16 GB of internal storage. It also included a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera and a 1.6-megapixel front-facing camera. The HTC First ran a modified version of Android Jelly Bean (4.1.2) heavily customized with Facebook Home.
Facebook Home replaced the standard Android home screen and app launcher with a feed of Facebook updates called "Cover Feed." It also provided a chat heads feature for easy access to Facebook Messenger conversations.
The HTC First was available in multiple colors and was initially offered through AT&T in the United States. However, due to lukewarm reception and low sales, the phone's price was quickly reduced, and AT&T eventually discontinued its availability. Facebook Home also did not achieve widespread adoption, and its development was later discontinued. The HTC First is thus remembered primarily for its ambitious but ultimately unsuccessful attempt to create a phone centered entirely around the Facebook experience.
