Dave Bing
Dave Bing (born November 24, 1943) is an American former professional basketball player and businessman. He had a distinguished 12-year career in the National Basketball Association (NBA), primarily with the Detroit Pistons.
Bing was a star guard, known for his scoring ability, playmaking skills, and toughness. He was the NBA Rookie of the Year in 1967 and an NBA All-Star seven times. He also won the NBA scoring title in 1968.
After retiring from basketball, Bing became a successful businessman. He founded Bing Steel, a steel processing company, which grew into a major enterprise. He later sold the company and became involved in other business ventures.
In 2009, Bing was elected Mayor of Detroit in a special election. He served as mayor until 2013, guiding the city through a period of financial crisis and working to revitalize its economy. His tenure was marked by efforts to improve city services, reduce crime, and attract investment.
Bing was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1990. He is considered one of the greatest players in Pistons history and a significant figure in Detroit's civic life.
