HMS Verulam (1917)

HMS Verulam was a V-class destroyer built for the Royal Navy during the First World War. She was ordered in July 1916 as part of the 1916-17 Programme and built by Yarrow Shipbuilders. Launched on 4 September 1917 and commissioned in November 1917, Verulam saw active service during the latter stages of the war.

Verulam was primarily involved in anti-submarine warfare and patrol duties in the North Sea and English Channel. She formed part of various destroyer flotillas throughout her service life.

On 4 November 1919, while serving in the Baltic Sea as part of the British intervention in the Russian Civil War, Verulam was torpedoed and sunk by the Russian submarine Pantera. The attack occurred near Seiskari Island. The wreck remains a designated war grave.
