HMS Shrewsbury (1695)

HMS Shrewsbury was an 80-gun third-rate ship of the line of the Royal Navy, launched in 1695 at Chatham Dockyard. She was named after the Earl of Shrewsbury.

Shrewsbury participated in several significant naval engagements during the War of the Spanish Succession. She served under Admiral Sir George Rooke at the Battle of Vigo Bay in 1702, where she played a crucial role in the capture and destruction of the Franco-Spanish treasure fleet.

The ship was rebuilt according to the 1706 Establishment at Woolwich Dockyard in 1712. This essentially involved a complete reconstruction, retaining the same dimensions and gun rating but with updated design features.

Shrewsbury continued to serve in the Royal Navy after her rebuilding. She was eventually broken up in 1749.
