HMS Glamorgan (D19)
HMS Glamorgan (D19) was a County-class destroyer of the Royal Navy. Commissioned in 1966, she served extensively throughout the Cold War, participating in numerous exercises and deployments around the world.
Glamorgan is most notable for her service during the Falklands War in 1982. As part of the British task force sent to retake the islands, she provided naval gunfire support to ground troops. On 12 June 1982, shortly after providing fire support at Mount Two Sisters, she was struck by a land-based Exocet missile fired from the Argentine mainland. The missile caused significant damage and loss of life.
Despite the extensive damage, Glamorgan's crew managed to bring the fires under control and save the ship. After temporary repairs in the Falklands, she returned to the United Kingdom.
Following the Falklands War, HMS Glamorgan was repaired and modernized, continuing to serve in the Royal Navy until 1986. She was then sold to the Chilean Navy, where she was renamed Almirante Latorre. She served with the Chilean Navy until her decommissioning in 1998, and was subsequently scrapped.
