Lewis Benson (politician)
Lewis Benson was an American politician who served as a city councilman in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was a Democrat representing the 1st Councilmanic District, which includes neighborhoods in the River Wards and portions of Center City. Benson was known for his advocacy for waterfront development, neighborhood revitalization, and public safety. He served on several council committees, including the Committee on Commerce and Economic Development and the Committee on Public Property and Public Works. Benson was first elected to City Council in 2016 and served until his retirement. His political career was characterized by a focus on local issues and constituent services within his district. Prior to his time on City Council, Benson was involved in community organizing and local Democratic politics.
