HMS Emerald (D66)
HMS Emerald (D66) was an Emerald-class light cruiser of the Royal Navy. She was built by Armstrong Whitworth and launched on May 19, 1925. Emerald served in various roles throughout her career, including service on the China Station and in the Indian Ocean.
During World War II, HMS Emerald participated in convoy escort duties, protecting vital shipping lanes from enemy submarines and surface raiders. She also saw action in the Indian Ocean and was involved in the search for German commerce raiders. In 1944, she took part in the Normandy landings, providing fire support for Allied troops ashore.
After the war, HMS Emerald was used as a training ship before being sold for scrap in 1948. She was broken up at Dalmuir. Her service reflects the typical deployment of light cruisers during the interwar and wartime periods, highlighting their versatility in roles ranging from distant patrol to close-quarters naval support.
