HMS Deptford (U53)

HMS Deptford (U53) was a Grimsby-class sloop of the Royal Navy. Built by William Denny & Brothers, Dumbarton, she was launched on 28 November 1935 and commissioned on 29 April 1936.

Deptford primarily served as a convoy escort during the Second World War, operating mainly in the Atlantic and Mediterranean. She was involved in several notable convoy battles, including those protecting convoys HX 84, HG 76, and SL 97. Her duties involved protecting merchant shipping from U-boat attacks and surface raiders.

Deptford also participated in the evacuation of troops from Dunkirk in 1940.

Post-war, Deptford was scrapped in 1959.
