HDMS Najaden (1796)
The HDMS Najaden was a frigate of the Royal Danish Navy, launched in 1796. A ship of the line, she displaced approximately 1,400 tons and carried 48 guns. The Najaden saw service in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, participating in various naval conflicts during the Napoleonic Wars. She is most notable for her involvement in the Battle of Lyngør in 1812, where she was engaged and ultimately destroyed by the British ship HMS Dictator, supported by two brigs. Her destruction at Lyngør marked a significant loss for the Danish Navy during the Gunboat War. The wreck of the Najaden remains in Norwegian waters to this day.
