Guy Caron

Guy Caron is a Canadian politician and academic. He served as the Member of Parliament for Rimouski-Neigette—Témiscouata—Les Basques in Quebec from 2011 to 2019.

Caron was born in Hull, Quebec. Prior to entering politics, he was a professor of economics at the Université du Québec à Rimouski (UQAR). His research focused on areas such as regional economic development and the social economy.

In the 2011 Canadian federal election, Caron was elected as a member of the New Democratic Party (NDP) during the party's significant breakthrough in Quebec. He served as the NDP's critic for various portfolios, including natural resources and industry.

In 2017, Caron ran in the NDP leadership election to replace Thomas Mulcair. He campaigned on a platform focused on social justice and economic equality, but ultimately lost to Jagmeet Singh.

Caron was defeated in the 2019 Canadian federal election by Maxime Bernier of the People's Party of Canada. Since leaving politics, he has returned to academia. His contributions to public discourse include commentary on economic policy and social issues.
