George Macartney (British Army officer)
George Macartney (born circa 1737, died 1806) was a British Army officer who served primarily in India during the 18th century. He should not be confused with his more famous relative, George Macartney, 1st Earl Macartney, the diplomat.
Little is publicly known about his personal life or details of his military career beyond the fact that he held the rank of lieutenant-colonel in the East India Company's army. Records indicate he was involved in various military actions and campaigns throughout the 1770s and 1780s, particularly in the Madras Presidency. He likely participated in conflicts arising from Anglo-French rivalry in India and the Mysore Wars. His service contributed to the expansion and consolidation of British power in the region. Further research is required to fully document his specific contributions and actions within the historical context of the British East India Company's military operations.
