Kostrad
Kostrad, or Komando Strategis Angkatan Darat (Army Strategic Reserve Command), is a principal operational command of the Indonesian Army. It is a large formation capable of conducting operations across the Indonesian archipelago. Kostrad is one of the army's primary combat commands and is responsible for strategic reserve, rapid reaction, and airborne operations. It reports directly to the Chief of Staff of the Army.
Kostrad's history dates back to the early years of Indonesian independence and the need for a mobile, rapidly deployable force to address internal security threats and external aggression. Over time, it has participated in various military operations, both domestically and internationally, including counter-insurgency campaigns and peacekeeping missions.
The command structure of Kostrad typically includes infantry, airborne, and support units. It maintains a high level of readiness and is equipped with modern weaponry and equipment. Personnel are selected and trained for their ability to operate in diverse environments and challenging situations.
Kostrad plays a significant role in Indonesia's national defense strategy, providing a credible deterrent force and contributing to regional security. The commander of Kostrad is a senior Indonesian Army officer, typically holding the rank of Lieutenant General.
