George Chambers (Pennsylvania politician)
George Chambers (born 1786, died March 25, 1866) was a prominent Pennsylvania lawyer and politician. He served in the Pennsylvania State Senate, representing Franklin County from 1825 to 1832, and was a candidate for Governor of Pennsylvania in 1835, running as the Whig candidate. He lost to George Wolf, the Democratic incumbent. Chambers was a leading member of the Pennsylvania bar, known for his legal expertise and eloquence. He was a strong advocate for internal improvements and other Whig policies. Prior to his Senate service, he held local office and was involved in various community activities. He died in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, a town named after his family.
