Gary Stevens (footballer, born 1962)
Gary Stevens (born 30 March 1962) is an English former professional footballer who played as a defender. He is best known for his time at Tottenham Hotspur during the 1980s.
Career
Stevens began his career at Brighton & Hove Albion, making his debut in 1979. He quickly established himself as a first-team regular and helped Brighton reach the 1983 FA Cup Final, where they lost to Manchester United after a replay.
In 1983, Stevens joined Tottenham Hotspur. At Spurs, he formed a formidable defensive partnership with players like Steve Perryman and Paul Miller. He won the UEFA Cup in 1984, defeating Anderlecht in the final. He also won the FA Cup in 1991. Stevens was known for his strong tackling, aerial ability, and committed performances.
He left Tottenham in 1992 and signed for Portsmouth. He later played for Brentford before retiring from professional football in 1998.
International Career
Stevens represented England at international level, earning seven caps. He was a member of the England squad for the 1986 FIFA World Cup in Mexico, although he did not feature in any matches.
Post-Playing Career
After retiring from football, Stevens has worked in various roles, including coaching and media work.
