Furniture (band)
Furniture was a British new wave band, formed in London in 1979. The band is best known for their 1986 single "Brilliant Mind," which achieved considerable success in Europe.
The original lineup consisted of singer Jim Irvin, keyboardist Maya Gilder, guitarist Tim Whelan, bassist Sally Still, and drummer Hamilton Lee. The band's music blended elements of pop, jazz, and art rock, characterized by Irvin's distinctive vocals and Gilder's prominent keyboard melodies.
Furniture released several albums, including "The Lovemongers" (1982), "When Boom Was Still an Option" (1986), and "3 Wise Men" (1990). While "Brilliant Mind" remains their most commercially successful song, other notable tracks include "Dancing on the Ceiling," and "Shaking Story."
After experiencing moderate success in the mid-1980s, the band eventually disbanded in 1991. Jim Irvin later pursued a career as a music journalist and songwriter. Some members have occasionally reunited for sporadic performances in recent years.
