Flaminio (Rome)

Flaminio is a quartiere (district) of Rome, Italy. It is designated as Q.I. Located north of the city center, it lies within Municipio I and Municipio II.

Flaminio is bounded to the north by the Grande Raccordo Anulare (GRA, Rome's orbital motorway), separating it from Tor di Quinto. To the east, it borders Parioli (Q.II) and Salario (Q.IV). To the south lies the rione Campo Marzio (R.IV) and the river Tiber. To the west, it is bounded by the Tiber and Della Vittoria (Q.XV).

Its notable landmarks and institutions include:

  • Piazza del Popolo
  • Villa Borghese (partially within Flaminio)
  • The MAXXI - National Museum of 21st Century Arts
  • The Auditorium Parco della Musica
  • Ponte Milvio (partially within Flaminio)
  • Stadio Flaminio
  • The Palazzetto dello Sport
  • Several architecturally significant bridges spanning the Tiber.

The area derives its name from the Via Flaminia, an ancient Roman road that originated in Rome and extended northwards. The modern Quartiere Flaminio was established in 1911. Much of its development occurred during the Fascist era, leaving a distinctive architectural imprint. The area is well-connected to the rest of Rome by public transport, including trams, buses, and metro (subway) lines.
