HMS Electra (1808)

HMS Electra was an 18-gun Cruizer-class brig-sloop of the British Royal Navy, launched in 1808. She served during the Napoleonic Wars and the War of 1812, participating in various actions, primarily in the Atlantic.

Electra was built at Rotherhithe by John Dudman. She was commissioned in July 1808 under Commander Paul Harris Nicolas.

One notable action occurred in 1809 when Electra, under Nicolas, captured the French privateer Entreprenant. In 1810, she participated in the capture of several French vessels and was involved in operations off the coast of France.

During the War of 1812, Electra was involved in patrolling and intercepting American shipping. While not involved in any major fleet engagements, she played a role in enforcing the British blockade of American ports.

The Cruizer-class sloops, to which Electra belonged, were a numerous and well-regarded class of warship in the Royal Navy during the early 19th century. They were designed for speed and versatility, serving in various roles, including convoy escort, anti-privateering patrols, and dispatch carrying.

Electra's career ended in 1815. She was sold out of the navy.
