Fangmatan

Fangmatan is a Neolithic archaeological site located in Tianshui, Gansu Province, China. It is considered a significant site for understanding the early stages of the Yangshao culture, specifically the early or middle phases of the Dadiwan culture, which predates the Miaodigou phase of Yangshao. Excavations at Fangmatan have revealed important insights into early agriculture, pottery production, and burial practices. The site is known for its pit-house remains, numerous artifacts including pottery and stone tools, and evidence of millet cultivation. Fangmatan provides valuable data for tracing the development and regional variations within the broader Yangshao cultural sphere.
