Fan Hui
Fan Hui (Chinese: 樊麾; born 1981) is a Chinese-French professional Go player. He is notable for being the first professional Go player to lose to a computer program, AlphaGo, in a full game with no handicap.
Prior to his match against AlphaGo, Fan Hui achieved the rank of 2-dan professional. He won the European Go Championship three times consecutively, in 2013, 2014, and 2015. He was also the European Champion in 2001 and 2005.
Fan Hui's matches against AlphaGo, which took place in October 2015, were a significant milestone in the development of artificial intelligence. AlphaGo won the series 5-0. The games were published in the journal Nature in January 2016.
Following his defeat, Fan Hui joined DeepMind as a researcher, contributing his expertise to further develop and refine AlphaGo's abilities. He played a crucial role in analyzing and improving the algorithms. He continues to work on AI-related projects, focusing on the development of intelligent systems for Go and other applications.
