Fair Exchange (TV series)

Fair Exchange was an American television comedy-drama series that aired on CBS during the 1962-1963 season. The premise of the show revolved around a cultural exchange program where two teenage children, one American and one British, swap homes and families for a year.

The series starred Eddie Hodges as Larry Walker, an American teenager from New York City, and Diana Fairfax as Angela "Angie" Russell, a British teenager from London. Larry goes to live with the Russell family in London, consisting of Thomas Russell (played by Dennis O'Keefe), a playwright, his wife Dorothy Russell (played by Audrey Christie), and their son Tony. Angie, in turn, lives with the Walker family in New York, which includes Eddie Walker (played by Victor Buono), an attorney, and his wife Hester Walker (played by Rosemary Murphy).

The humor and drama of the show stemmed from the cultural differences and adjustments that Larry and Angie had to navigate in their new environments. Episodes typically explored the comedic situations arising from differing customs, language barriers, and social expectations, as well as more serious themes of understanding and acceptance.

Despite its relatively short run, Fair Exchange aimed to promote cross-cultural understanding and offered a lighthearted look at the challenges and rewards of international exchange. The show was cancelled after one season.
