Tim Scott
Tim Scott (born September 19, 1965) is an American politician serving as the senior United States Senator from South Carolina since 2013. A member of the Republican Party, he previously served in the U.S. House of Representatives for South Carolina's 1st congressional district from 2011 to 2013, in the South Carolina Senate from 2009 to 2011, and in the South Carolina House of Representatives from 1997 to 2009.
Scott was appointed to the U.S. Senate by Governor Nikki Haley in 2013 following the resignation of Senator Jim DeMint. He won a special election in 2014 to serve the remainder of DeMint's term and was subsequently re-elected to a full term in 2016 and again in 2022.
Known for his conservative views, Scott has focused on issues such as tax reform, opportunity zones, and criminal justice reform. He is often described as a rising star within the Republican Party and has been a vocal advocate for policies aimed at promoting economic growth and individual responsibility. He briefly campaigned for the Republican nomination for President of the United States in 2024.
