Everett Hughes (United States Army officer)
Everett Hughes (October 14, 1885 – July 27, 1957) was a highly decorated officer in the United States Army, reaching the rank of Major General. He served in both World War I and World War II, holding key staff positions.
Hughes graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1908. Early assignments included service in the Philippines. During World War I, he served in France, earning the Distinguished Service Medal.
Between the wars, Hughes held various staff positions within the War Department. He was considered an expert in logistics and planning.
During World War II, Hughes served as the Chief of Supply for the European Theater of Operations. In this role, he was responsible for the massive logistical undertaking of supplying the Allied forces fighting in Europe. His work was crucial to the success of the Allied campaigns. He was awarded the Legion of Merit for his service in this capacity.
Hughes retired from the Army after World War II. He is buried in Arlington National Cemetery. His decorations included the Distinguished Service Medal and the Legion of Merit. He played a significant role in the Army's logistical operations during two World Wars.
