Eva Copa
Eva Copa Murga (born January 8, 1987) is a Bolivian politician and social worker. She served as President of the Senate of Bolivia from 2019 to 2020, representing the Movement for Socialism (MAS-IPSP).
Copa was born in El Alto, Bolivia. Before entering politics, she worked as a social worker and was involved in various community organizations in El Alto. She studied social work at the Universidad Pública de El Alto (UPEA).
She was elected as a senator for La Paz Department in 2014. In 2019, following the resignation of then-President Evo Morales and subsequent political crisis, she was elected as President of the Senate. As President of the Senate, she played a crucial role in navigating the political transition and organizing new elections.
In 2021, Copa ran for Mayor of El Alto as a member of the Jallalla La Paz coalition, challenging the MAS candidate. She won the election, becoming the first woman mayor of El Alto and the first mayor not affiliated with MAS since the party came to power. Her victory was seen as a significant shift in the political landscape of El Alto, a traditional MAS stronghold. As mayor, she has focused on issues such as urban development, public safety, and improving basic services for the city's residents.
