Et Cetera (album)
Et Cetera is a 1976 jazz fusion album by Wayne Shorter. It was recorded in 1970 but remained unreleased for six years. The album features a quintet lineup including Shorter on soprano and tenor saxophone, Chick Corea on electric piano, John McLaughlin on guitar, Dave Holland on bass, and Jack DeJohnette on drums.
The album consists of five tracks: "Et Cetera," "Angola," "Nefertiti," "Orange Lady," and "More Than Human." The music is characterized by its complex harmonies, intricate rhythms, and improvisational interplay between the musicians. "Nefertiti" is a re-recording of a track that originally appeared on Miles Davis' 1968 album of the same name, on which Shorter played.
Et Cetera is considered by many critics to be a significant and influential work in the jazz fusion genre. Its delayed release contributed to its reputation as a "lost" or "hidden gem" in Shorter's discography. The album's exploratory and challenging nature showcases the virtuosic abilities of the musicians involved and reflects the experimental spirit of the era.
