Emil Kio
Emil Kio was the stage name of Emil Teodorovich Hirshfeld-Renard (1894-1965), a renowned Soviet illusionist and magician. He is considered one of the founders of the Soviet school of illusion and a pioneer in large-scale stage magic performances. He was known for his grand illusions, including vanishing acts, transformations, and escapes, often incorporating elaborate set designs and numerous assistants. Kio toured extensively throughout the Soviet Union and internationally, popularizing stage magic and contributing to its development as a respected art form. His performances were distinguished by their theatricality, artistry, and innovative use of stagecraft. His contributions cemented his legacy as a significant figure in the history of magic. The Kio name was later carried on by his sons, Igor Kio and Emil Kio Jr., who continued the family tradition of performing large-scale illusion shows.
