Dul Zangi

Dul Zangi is a historical musical instrument, specifically a type of bagpipe, traditionally played in Azerbaijan and other regions of the Caucasus. The name translates roughly to "wind instrument" or "wind pipe." It is characterized by a goatskin bag that is inflated, typically by blowing into a blowpipe. Reeds attached to the bag produce the instrument's sound when air is forced through them.

The Dul Zangi usually features a single chanter (melody pipe) and one or more drone pipes, which produce a constant, harmonizing tone. The chanter is typically held with both hands and has finger holes that allow the player to produce different notes, creating melodies.

Variations in construction and tuning can exist depending on the region and the specific maker. Traditionally, the instrument played a significant role in folk music and celebrations of the region. While not as widely used today as in the past, efforts are ongoing to preserve and promote the Dul Zangi and its cultural significance within the Azerbaijani musical heritage.
