Domenico Sorrentino (bishop)

Domenico Sorrentino (born 16 May 1948) is an Italian prelate of the Catholic Church. He is currently the Archbishop-Bishop of Assisi-Nocera Umbra-Gualdo Tadino, a position he has held since November 19, 2005.

Born in Grumo Nevano, in the Province of Naples, Sorrentino was ordained a priest on 24 June 1972. He earned a doctorate in Theology.

Sorrentino served in various roles within the Vatican administration prior to his episcopal appointment. He was a professor at the Pontifical Urbaniana University. He also served as Secretary of the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue from 1992 to 1999.

On 19 December 1998, he was appointed Titular Bishop of Castellania and Secretary of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments. He was consecrated bishop on 6 January 1999 by Pope John Paul II.

In 2003, he was appointed Secretary of the Administration of the Patrimony of the Apostolic See (APSA), a Vatican office responsible for managing the Holy See's properties.

On 19 November 2005, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him Archbishop-Bishop of Assisi-Nocera Umbra-Gualdo Tadino, succeeding Sergio Goretti. He was installed on 21 January 2006. As Archbishop of Assisi, he oversees important religious sites related to Saint Francis and Saint Clare. He has been involved in promoting interreligious dialogue and understanding, consistent with his earlier work at the Pontifical Council.
