Westminster Mall (Colorado)

Westminster Mall, located in Westminster, Colorado, was a large enclosed shopping mall that operated from 1977 until its demolition in the early 2010s. It was situated at the intersection of U.S. Highway 36 and Sheridan Boulevard. Originally anchored by major department stores such as Joslins (later Dillard's), Sears, and Montgomery Ward, the mall served as a major retail hub for the northern Denver metropolitan area for several decades.

Over time, the mall experienced a decline in occupancy and popularity, mirroring the trends affecting many enclosed malls across the United States. Factors contributing to this decline included increased competition from newer shopping centers, the rise of online retail, and changing consumer preferences. Several anchor tenants closed, leading to further vacancies and a decrease in foot traffic.

The mall was eventually acquired by a development company with plans for redevelopment. The entire structure was demolished, and the site was repurposed into a mixed-use development known as Downtown Westminster. This new development includes residential units, retail spaces, restaurants, and civic amenities, marking a significant transformation of the former mall site into a more contemporary and integrated urban environment. The name "Westminster Mall" is now primarily a historical reference point in the city's development.
