The Witness (2015 Chinese film)
The Witness (我是证人, Wo Shi Zheng Ren) is a 2015 Chinese-South Korean action thriller film directed by Ahn Sang-hoon and starring Yang Mi and Lu Han. It is a remake of the 2011 South Korean film Blind, also directed by Ahn Sang-hoon.
The film tells the story of Xiaoxing (Yang Mi), a police academy graduate who loses her sight in a tragic accident. Despite her blindness, she possesses heightened auditory and sensory abilities. One night, she witnesses a kidnapping, becoming a crucial witness. At the same time, Linchong (Lu Han), a young skateboarder, also witnesses the same event. Due to their conflicting accounts and lack of solid evidence, the police struggle to believe them. Facing disbelief and the lurking danger of the perpetrator, Xiaoxing and Linchong must work together to uncover the truth and bring the criminal to justice.
The film explores themes of perception, disability, justice, and the importance of trusting one's senses. It gained popularity in China for its suspenseful plot, strong performances, and exploration of social issues. It differs slightly from the original Blind with some alterations to the plot and character motivations, tailored for a Chinese audience.
