Disquiet (album)

Disquiet is the third studio album by the American progressive metal band Fates Warning, released in 1989 on Metal Blade Records.

The album marked a significant shift in Fates Warning's sound, moving away from their earlier, more traditional heavy metal leanings towards a more progressive and technically complex style. It retained elements of the band's melodic sensibilities but incorporated intricate arrangements, unconventional time signatures, and more experimental instrumentation.

Disquiet featured the lineup of Ray Alder on vocals, Jim Matheos on guitars, Frank Aresti on guitars, Joe DiBiase on bass, and Mark Zonder on drums. The album was produced by Terry Brown, known for his work with Rush, which further contributed to the album's polished and progressive sound.

The album's lyrical themes explored introspection, existential concerns, and social commentary, reflecting a more mature and thoughtful approach compared to their previous works. Key tracks included "The Apparition," "Shelter Me," and "Stranger Things."

While not an immediate commercial success, Disquiet has since been recognized as a pivotal album in Fates Warning's discography and a significant contribution to the progressive metal genre. It is considered by many fans and critics to be one of their best albums and helped solidify their reputation as innovators in progressive metal.
