Dieppe (electoral district)

Dieppe (electoral district) is a provincial electoral district in New Brunswick, Canada. It is used to elect one member to the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick.

The district was created in 1994 from parts of the former districts of Memramcook, Kent North, and Shediac-Cap-Pelé. Initially, it encompassed the town of Dieppe and surrounding rural areas. Subsequent boundary changes, notably in 2006 and 2013, have altered the district's composition, primarily affecting the inclusion or exclusion of specific neighborhoods within Dieppe and adjacent unincorporated areas.

Geographically, the district is located in southeastern New Brunswick, centered on the city of Dieppe, a significant Francophone urban centre. It is bordered by other provincial electoral districts such as Memramcook-Tantramar, Moncton East, Moncton Southwest, and Shediac Bay-Dieppe.

Demographically, Dieppe is characterized by a significant Acadian population. French is widely spoken throughout the district, and a bilingual electorate is prominent. The economy of the district is diverse, with sectors including retail, services, light manufacturing, and transportation contributing to the local job market. The Greater Moncton Roméo LeBlanc International Airport is located within the boundaries of the electoral district.

Politically, Dieppe has historically been a stronghold for the Liberal Party of New Brunswick, though other parties, including the Progressive Conservative Party and the Green Party, have also contested the seat. The electoral results have generally reflected the district's Francophone identity and its concerns related to language rights, education, and economic development. The incumbent Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) represents the district's interests in the provincial legislature, advocating for local priorities and contributing to policy decisions affecting the entire province.
