Department of Repatriation (1975–76)
The Department of Repatriation was an Australian government department that existed for a relatively short period, from December 1975 to December 1976. It was created by the Fraser government following its election victory. The Department was responsible for administering repatriation benefits and services to veterans of the Australian Defence Force and their dependents. These benefits typically included pensions, medical treatment, and other forms of support related to their service. Following its year-long existence, its functions were absorbed into the Department of Veterans' Affairs. The brevity of its tenure reflects a period of restructuring within the Australian government. Its short life makes it a somewhat unusual case in the history of Australian government departments.
