Deltosoma
Deltosoma is a genus of beetles belonging to the family Cerambycidae, the longhorn beetles. These beetles are characterized by their generally elongated bodies and often, though not always in Deltosoma, by their exceptionally long antennae, which are often longer than their body length.
Specific characteristics of Deltosoma beetles can include patterns of coloration, sculpturing on the elytra (the hardened forewings), and details of the pronotal shape (the dorsal part of the prothorax). Identification often requires detailed examination of morphological features, including microscopic characteristics of the genitalia in some cases.
Distribution of Deltosoma species is typically within specific geographical regions. The ecological role of Deltosoma beetles is generally that of wood borers, with the larvae feeding on decaying or living wood. Adults may be found on flowers or foliage, feeding on pollen or plant tissues.
The taxonomy of Deltosoma, like that of many insect genera, is subject to revision based on new data from morphological and molecular studies. Species previously classified within Deltosoma may be reassigned to other genera, and conversely, species from other genera may be moved into Deltosoma.
