Del Rice

Del Rice (born Delbert Wayne Rice on October 4, 1922, in Portsmouth, Ohio; died January 26, 1983, in Visalia, California) was an American professional baseball catcher. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for 17 seasons, from 1945 to 1961.

Rice played for the St. Louis Cardinals (1945-1948), Chicago Cubs (1949-1951), Milwaukee Braves (1953-1957), Baltimore Orioles (1958-1959), and Los Angeles Dodgers (1960-1961). Known primarily for his defensive skills and durability behind the plate, Rice was a respected receiver and handled pitching staffs effectively. Although not a power hitter, he was considered a valuable role player.

Rice was a member of the 1946 World Series champion St. Louis Cardinals. He also played in the 1957 World Series with the Milwaukee Braves. Following his playing career, he remained involved in baseball as a coach and scout.
