Deathwatch (2002 film)
Deathwatch is a 2002 British horror film directed by Michael J. Bassett. The film stars Jamie Bell, Andy Serkis, Laurence Fox, Dean Lennox Kelly, Kris Marshall, and Matthew Rhys.
The film is set in 1917, during World War I. A company of British soldiers, lost and disoriented in the trenches of the Western Front, stumble upon a mysterious and seemingly abandoned German trench system. They decide to take shelter within, but soon discover that the trenches are haunted by a malevolent, supernatural presence.
As the soldiers become increasingly isolated and paranoid, they begin to suspect that the trench itself is alive and that it is feeding on their fear and guilt. Strange and disturbing events occur, and the men start to turn on each other as they try to survive the horrors of the trench and the insidious entity within it.
Deathwatch explores themes of psychological trauma, the dehumanizing effects of war, guilt, and the supernatural. It received mixed reviews upon release, with some critics praising its atmospheric horror and others finding it lacking in depth.
