David Milne Home (politician)

David Milne Home (1805 – 1890) was a Scottish advocate, geologist, meteorologist, and politician. He was a significant figure in the 19th-century Scottish intellectual landscape.

Born David Milne, he added "Home" to his surname in 1852 upon inheriting the estate of Wedderburn Castle from his maternal relatives. He was educated as an advocate and practiced law for a time, but his primary interests lay in scientific pursuits.

Milne Home was a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh and actively contributed to various scientific societies. He published extensively on geology, particularly concerning the formation of the Scottish landscape. He also made significant contributions to the field of meteorology, advocating for the establishment of a network of weather stations across Scotland.

His political career was relatively brief but notable. He served as a Member of Parliament (MP) for Berwickshire from 1874 to 1878, initially as a Liberal. He was known for his thoughtful and independent approach to parliamentary matters. He retired from Parliament due to ill health.
