James Duff (British Army officer)

James Duff (1731 – 1805) was a British Army officer and Member of Parliament.

Duff was commissioned into the British Army and served in various campaigns, rising through the ranks. He notably served during the Seven Years' War. He attained the rank of General in 1798.

In addition to his military career, Duff also pursued a political career. He sat as Member of Parliament (MP) for Banffshire from 1754 to 1790.

He was the son of William Duff, 1st Earl Fife, and his wife Lady Janet Forbes.
