David Lassner
David Lassner is an American academic administrator, currently serving as the President of the University of Hawaiʻi System. He assumed the presidency on July 1, 2014.
Prior to becoming president, Lassner held various leadership positions within the University of Hawaiʻi System. These included Vice President for Information Technology and Chief Information Officer, positions he held simultaneously from 2007. He also served as interim Vice President for Research and interim Chancellor of the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa.
Lassner's background is rooted in computer science and information technology. He has been involved in numerous local, national, and international initiatives related to internet infrastructure, cybersecurity, and broadband access. He has also been a strong advocate for affordable higher education and has focused on initiatives aimed at improving student success and access to college.
His tenure as president has focused on strategic initiatives such as improving graduation rates, expanding online learning opportunities, and strengthening the university's role in addressing pressing issues facing Hawaiʻi, including sustainability, renewable energy, and healthcare. He is a vocal proponent of the university's role in workforce development and economic diversification for the state.
