David Buchanan (baseball)
David Buchanan (born May 16, 1989) is an American professional baseball pitcher. He has played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Philadelphia Phillies and in the Korean Baseball Organization (KBO) for the Samsung Lions.
Buchanan attended Starr's Mill High School in Fayetteville, Georgia, and played college baseball at Georgia State University. He was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the seventh round of the 2010 Major League Baseball draft.
He made his MLB debut with the Phillies on May 25, 2014. He pitched for the Phillies in 2014 and 2015, primarily as a starting pitcher.
In 2017, Buchanan signed with the Samsung Lions of the KBO. He played for the Lions from 2017 to 2023, becoming a consistent and reliable starting pitcher in the KBO. He returned to MLB in 2024, signing a minor league contract with the Philadelphia Phillies.
Buchanan is known for his command and control, relying on location and movement rather than overpowering velocity.
