D Smoke (born Darius Barnes on October 17, 1985) is an American rapper, musician, and educator from Inglewood, California. He gained widespread recognition after appearing on the Netflix music competition show Rhythm + Flow in 2019, where he emerged as the winner.
Known for his multilingual rapping skills, incorporating English and Spanish lyrics into his music, D Smoke often focuses on themes of social consciousness, community empowerment, and personal experiences growing up in Southern California. His music often features intricate wordplay and a sophisticated lyrical style.
Prior to his appearance on Rhythm + Flow, D Smoke had a career in education, teaching Spanish and music theory at Inglewood High School. He also has a background in music production and songwriting, having contributed to projects for other artists.
