The Deep (band)

The Deep was a 1960s American garage rock band from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. They are primarily known for their psychedelic single, "When Raindrops Fall," released in 1966.

History:

Formed in the mid-1960s, The Deep consisted of Rusty Evans (guitar, vocals), John "Peppy" Prince (bass), and Wayne “Larry” Burton (drums). Evans was the primary songwriter for the band. Their sound was heavily influenced by British Invasion bands like The Yardbirds and The Animals, but incorporated elements of early psychedelia.

"When Raindrops Fall":

The Deep's most notable track, "When Raindrops Fall," is a psychedelic garage rock song featuring distorted guitars, a driving rhythm section, and echo-laden vocals. The song was released as a single on the Norman Petty label (Petty also being known for his work with Buddy Holly). Despite not achieving mainstream commercial success at the time of its release, "When Raindrops Fall" has since become a cult classic and is highly regarded within the garage rock and psychedelic music scenes. It has been featured on numerous compilation albums of 1960s garage rock and has been covered by other artists.

Post-The Deep:

After The Deep disbanded, Rusty Evans continued his musical career, exploring different genres including country and folk music. He also worked as a session musician and songwriter. Information about the post-band activities of Prince and Burton is less readily available.

Legacy:

The Deep is remembered for their contribution to the burgeoning psychedelic garage rock sound of the 1960s. "When Raindrops Fall" remains a popular song among fans of the genre and is considered a significant example of the musical experimentation taking place during that era. The band's obscurity during their active years has contributed to their cult status, with collectors and enthusiasts continuing to discover and appreciate their music.
