Crusade in Jeans (film)
Crusade in Jeans is a 2006 adventure film directed by Ben Sombogaart, based on the 1973 Dutch children's novel Kruistocht in Spijkerbroek by Thea Beckman. The film tells the story of Rudolf "Dolf" Wega, a teenage boy who participates in a time travel experiment, only to be accidentally sent back to the year 1212, during the Children's Crusade.
Dolf finds himself amidst the chaos and dangers of the historical crusade, a tragic event where thousands of children marched towards the Holy Land, often facing starvation, disease, and exploitation. He uses his modern knowledge and skills, including basic chemistry and understanding of hygiene, to help the children survive and navigate the treacherous journey.
The film portrays the hardships faced by the young crusaders and highlights the manipulative and exploitative nature of certain individuals who profited from the movement. While attempting to return to his own time, Dolf becomes deeply involved with the children and tries to steer them away from the dangers they face, ultimately altering the course of their historical journey. The film explores themes of responsibility, courage, and the consequences of tampering with the past.
