Crossfire (2007 video game)

Crossfire is a free-to-play, online first-person shooter (FPS) video game developed by Smilegate Entertainment. It was first released in South Korea in 2007 and later gained popularity in other parts of Asia, particularly China, and subsequently internationally.

The game features several game modes, including team deathmatch, search and destroy (where one team attempts to plant and detonate a bomb while the other defends), and zombie modes. Players typically choose to play as either a member of the "Black List" terrorist group or the "Global Risk" counter-terrorist organization.

Crossfire utilizes a microtransaction-based business model, where the game itself is free to download and play, but players can purchase in-game currency to acquire weapons, character skins, and other cosmetic items that may or may not provide gameplay advantages. The degree to which these purchases influence gameplay balance has been a subject of debate within the gaming community.

Despite its relative lack of visibility in Western markets compared to other FPS titles like Counter-Strike or Call of Duty, Crossfire has consistently been one of the most played and profitable online games globally, particularly due to its immense popularity in Asia. The game's success has spawned various spin-offs and adaptations, including a single-player campaign titled CrossfireX.
