Coy Bacon
Coy Bacon (August 30, 1942 – March 18, 2008) was a professional American football defensive lineman who played in the National Football League (NFL) from 1968 to 1978. Known for his toughness and durability, Bacon played for the Los Angeles Rams, Cincinnati Bengals, San Diego Chargers, Washington Redskins, and Oakland Raiders.
Bacon began his professional career in the Continental Football League before joining the NFL. He was known as a consistently solid player, particularly effective against the run. During his time with the Cincinnati Bengals in the early 1970s, he gained notoriety for having his facemask deliberately stepped on by an opposing offensive lineman (reportedly Dan Dierdorf). Bacon suffered facial cuts requiring stitches as a result.
Following his playing career, Bacon lived a relatively private life. He is remembered as a dependable and hardworking defensive lineman from a bygone era of the NFL.
