Copperhead (album)
Copperhead is the only studio album by the American rock band Copperhead, released in 1973 on the Columbia Records label. The band was formed by guitarist John Cipollina after his departure from Quicksilver Messenger Service.
The album showcases a hard rock sound with elements of blues and psychedelia, influenced by Cipollina's distinctive guitar playing style. It features songs primarily written by members of the band, including Jim McPherson and Gary Philippet.
Despite critical acclaim and featuring Cipollina's prominent guitar work, Copperhead did not achieve significant commercial success upon its initial release. The band dissolved shortly after the album's release.
The album has since gained a cult following among fans of 1970s rock music and is often cited as a notable example of John Cipollina's post-Quicksilver Messenger Service work. The tracks "Kamikaze" and "Roller Derby Star" are among the best-known songs from the album.
Copperhead has been reissued on CD and vinyl, ensuring its continued availability to audiences interested in the music of John Cipollina and the early 1970s San Francisco rock scene.
