Cool World (SNES video game)
Cool World is a platforming video game released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) in 1993. It is loosely based on the live-action/animated film of the same name, Cool World. The game was developed by Bits Corporation and published by Acclaim Entertainment.
The game follows Jack Deebs, a cartoonist who finds himself trapped within the animated world he created. His objective is to navigate various levels, battle enemies, and ultimately defeat Holli Would, a femme fatale cartoon character, before she escapes into the real world.
Gameplay consists primarily of side-scrolling platforming action. Jack can jump, attack with a melee weapon (typically a pen or pencil), and collect power-ups. Levels are themed around environments from the Cool World film, featuring surreal and often bizarre landscapes.
Reception of Cool World was generally negative. Critics often cited poor controls, frustrating level design, and a lack of faithfulness to the source material as major flaws. The game is frequently cited as one of the worst video game adaptations of a film.
